When you hear the name Rohit Shetty as the director of a movie, Pritam is the name that instantly strikes for the music composer ,he has been the hot favourite for Rohit Shetty's films,be it the Golmaal series (apart from the 1st one, other 2 had Pritam tunes) or last year released All The Best.But this time for his latest action-thriller SINGHAM,Rohit chooses Ajay-Atul:The National Award winning Marathi Jodi,who has given music way back in 2004 for GAYAB ,Viruddh and Hanuman Chaalisa in Vaah!Life Ho To Aisi(2005).So,seeing their past record in Bollywood,one doesnt expects a Roller-Coaster ride from them and surprisingly the album offers only 3 original soundtracks with 3 remixes of the same.Lyrics are by Swanand Kirkire who has won National Awards for Behti Hawa Sa Tha Wo(3 idiots) & Bande Me Tha Dum(Lago Raho Munna Bhai).So,Lets see what they have to offer.
The title track Singham is sung audaciously by Sukhwinder Singh who has hits to his name in form of Hud Hud Dabbang and Omkara,but this song is completely different from both of them,its more of a War song with sounds of lion roars in between(Singham=Lion).The song starts with some kind of Sanskrit Shloks and then gives a slight feeling of Ajeem-0-Shah-Shehanshah(Jodha-Akbar) solely on the music front.The song will be a hit and will settle down in 2-to-3 hearings and will work well along the narration of the movie.All in all a good song which will be more popular once the movie releases.
Next song Saathiya crooned by Shreya Ghosal & Ajay Gogavale will leave you spellbound due to the sweet voice of Shreya and the addictive-humming tune which says -Badmaash dil to thag hai bada(wonder why the song is not named Badmaash Dil instead of Saathiya).Ajay provides good support to Shreya in these lines.Its straightaway a chartbuster and will click instantly,although many people would call it a Pritam genre or highlights of Seedhe-Saade Saara Sauda(Aakrosh-2010) can be observed,but keeping all things aside,its a fantastic original masterpiece and a must hear.Not to forget Swanand Kirkire who provides very meaningful lyrics here.Go for this song.
Kunal Ganjawala & Richa Sharma,yes thats the combination for the next song,Maula Maula which starts as a love song but later turns into a Qawwali(at places).The song is hummable but Richa Sharma will make you think if she is the right choice for the song,although Kunal Ganjawala does a good job behind the mike but its more of a Rahat Fateh Ali Khan genre.Good song anyways.
Coming to the 3 remixes,Singham Remix is impressive from the word go due to the use of different musical arrangements which makes the song sound different from the original.Saathiya Remix is a usual remix and keeps the pace and innocence of the song intact.The Maula Maula Remix adds some more beats and pace to the original and has nothing special in it.
The music of Singham keeps you wanting for more and all you get is 3 compositions,thats the only disadvantage it has.Badmaash dil/Saathiya will top the charts in the coming days and the title song will grow with time.The album should be heard by every music lover.
