If the lead star cast of a movie has the names of the likes of
Boman Irani (read talent house) and debutant (as an actress) Farah Khan, one
does expect some unconventional, unusual stuff both from the movie and the
soundtrack.."Shirin Farhan Ki Toh Nikal Padi" has music by Jeet Ganguly ('Blood
Money' fame, also worked
with Pritam for 'Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai') which does generates some
expectations and moreover when an artist like Amitabh Bhattacharya (A.B) has
been roped in for the lyrics, one can't resist but give at least a hear to the
six originals!
Harmonium, Keyboard, Guitar, the duet effect with K.K and Shreya
Ghoshal.."Ishq Main Tere Bina" is
absorbing right from the first note where Shreya Ghoshal is graceful and
spreads her charm while K.K with his sublime low notes shows why he is
considered the most bankable artist today. A.B writes some situational stuff
which perfectly describes the 'Aura' of being in love at such an age. A breezy
and charming start!
"Khatti Meethi" is another easy-on-ear romantic track
where the focus is completely on the female protagonist (Farah Khan) and
defines the fairy tale a woman/girl get involves in while being in love. A.B.
shows his class as a writer and makes one think while eminently mixing English
and Hindi phrases. Shreya Ghoshal is first rate with her vocals and more said
is less for such breathtaking talent. A decent composition which would grow with
time!
As soon as the next track "Kaafir
Andhere" starts, Pritam
Chakraborty is the name that hits the ears instantly and rightly so considering
the association Jeet Ganguly had with him. The "King of Pain";
K.K is a dynamite in this forte of soft-rock, the challenging low notes, the
hair-raising 'painful' high notes are first rate with an excellent duet effect.
Come to the lyrics where A.B. strikes gold with each and every word interwoven
with emotions and pathos. Considering the fact that it would be picturised on
Boman, I don't see it going too far and getting much popularity where any other
day, an Emraan or Salman would have done wonders with this one. Must hear
anyways!
A fast paced, theme based track "Shirin
Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi" is
next, sung by Neeraj Shridhar in his stereotyped style has nothing new to offer
except some fun lyrics by A.B. that too gets a bit repetitive with the title
being on loop, as a result as an audio alone, it disappoints. Nevertheless,
should work pretty well along the narration of the movie.
"Kuku Duku" is filled with innovation (lyrics) and one
can't resist but smile while hearing this innocent/fun number. Mohit Chauhan
comes as a surprise in this conversational number which starts with pleasant
guitar strums and flute where A.B. provides some hilarious stuff, go hear it
for yourself. A situational number which will certainly be a fun filled ride
with a talent house like Boman Irani who will surely bring the house down.
The last song "Rhamba
Mein Samba" starts off
with pretentious fusion of Western-Indian arrangements and with Usha
Uthup behind the mike, one does expect a stylish end to the soundtrack. Guest
Lyricist Faraz Ali does a pretty good job and stands head to head with A.B.
Considering the picturisation on Farah Khan, this should work pretty well but
for a veteran talent like Usha Uthup, it's an average composition that would
only work for the movie and has nothing in it that stays with the listeners
even after repeated hearings.
Overall, the soundtrack is more inclined towards the situational
tag as expected with some proficient work by A.B. as a writer. Jeet Ganguly
uses his own Bengali compositions and despite the 4 songs being a re-hash of
his Bengali tunes, it doesn't provides a single chartbuster tune, 'Kaafir
Andhera' may go the distance and grab some ears, rest, all others are made for
the movie and will be forgotten easily after the movie.
I rate it 2.5 out of 5.0
