Ramaiya Vastavaiya Music Review

Rating: ★ ★ 1/2

A musical romance led by artists like Atif Aslam, Mohit Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal under the talented duo of Sachin-Jigar (Music Directors) .."Ramaiya Vastavaiya" boasts of some melodious, easy-on-ears tunes. Surprisingly the soundtrack has been released before two months of the movie release which is a very rare thing in Bollywood as a result the expectations from the soundtrack are a bit on the higher sides. On the director seat we have Prabhudeva, whose last two films provided some hit tracks and moreover the combination of Sachin-Jigar and producer Kumar S.Taurani resulted in 'Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya' (2012) which had some great tunes. The duo favorite writer Priya Panchal is at the helm of affairs, with six originals and one reprise, let's see if the soundtrack lives up to the expectations!

A combination of Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal makes up for a deadly pair, "Jeena Laga Hu" is one such hummable romantic composition that instantly provides a heard before feel (of other Atif songs) and yet instantly catches one's attention, courtesy some magical renditions by both Atif and Shreya. The music is traditional and lands on the territory of the musical duo of Nadeem-Shravan; still, the composition is irresistible and has the capability to enter the top 10 in no time. Melodically intoxicating!

Punjabi dance number "Hip Hop Pammi" tries hard to be a funny foot tapping number but fails where Mika Singh does what he has done infinite times in recent years along with Monali Thakur who had nothing to do and goes unnoticed. The composition lacks the punch as an audio alone and may look good on screen with the gorgeous Shruti Hasan. It fails to lure the listeners to the dance floor with its fast pacy beats that has nothing new, both on musical and lyrical aspects. Average!

"Bariyan" tries to recreate the magic of Sachin-Jigar very own 'Piya O Re Piya' (Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya) and 'Saibo' (Shor In The City) with Shreya Ghoshal sugary vocals starting off the proceedings on soft guitar notes and when Atif Aslam joins in at 0.45, almost unplugged, one just falls in love with the song and as the song changes tempo after 1.15 and moves toward some classical notes, one is certain that this one has in to enjoy a certain shelf life and a special place in the playlists. The second interlude has some prolific arrangements that deserves to be heard while the lyrics by Priya Panchal are first class and defines the state of mind of lovers in such way that one instantly connects with it. Impressive!

Mohit Chauhan tries to do something different with "Peecha Choote" , where the protagonist is in search of someone who steals his heart so that he attains peace of mind as he says: 'Chura Le Jaye to Koi, Toh Dil Se Peecha Choote'. Despite the presence of Mohit behind the mike and Priya Panchal innovative way to describe the desire to fall in love, the song falls in the average category.

Remember 'Le Ja Tu Mujhe' (FALTU) by Atif Aslam.."Rang Jo Lagyo" lands in the same corridor with some electric guitar riffs, drum beats and tabla that results in a multi-layer composition with some apt lyrics, perfect for a pre-climax situation. It starts off on a soft note and picks up pace after one minute with renditions for which Atif is known for. The interlude is filled with various arrangements where the song moves towards a classical genre whereas the second interlude plays the 'Jeene Laga Hu' tune after which Shreya Ghoshal joins in and whoaaa..The jugalbandi between these two artists towards the end is pure magic. Glorious!

Last to arrive is the item number by Indian Idol fame Neha Kakkar and Mika Singh.."Jadoo Ki Jhappi" which tries to do some sort of 'Chikini Chameli' and fails miserably. Nothing works for the composition and moreover there is "Jadoo Ki Jhappi (Reprise)" which is almost a repeat of the original and makes no sense to be placed as a reprise version. Skip..Both!

To conclude, the soundtrack works in parts, the three tracks by Atif and Shreya are the only highlights, rest are just average compositions and doesn't impress. "Jeene Laga Hu" will be a hit whereas "Bariyan" and "Rang Jo Lagyo" will grow with time and find a special place in the listener's playlist. All in All, love is surely bliss and Sachin-Jigar makes you feel that way with their music!
