A horror movie and good music are never synonymous to each other.."Ragini MMS 2" doesn't brings along huge expectations, moreover when the last outing 'Ragini MMS' offered nothing on the musical front. Surprisingly, four composers have been roped in for four original compositions with a remix and reprise version each. Sunny Leone being the main lead for this sequel, some visual treat is on the cards for sure.

Meet Bros Anjjan kick starts with "Baby Doll" that has in it to be a
chartbuster straightaway (I am talking here about the audio alone) even if one
ignores the scorching screen presence of Sunny Leone which is shot in a way to
gain lots of hooting and holla from its target segment. Debutant Kanika Kapoor
strikes gold (pun intended) with her magnetic voice that brings on the required
sensuality in this composition; add to that some English and Punjabi rap
portions by Meet Brothers and Kunal Avanti with some Urban-Punjabi lyrics by
Kumaar. Grab this 'doll' right
now! Things becomes more interesting with "Baby
Doll Remix" which
ups the tempo a few levels with some techno arrangements, what I liked is few
changes here and there, the added Rap portions by Meet Brothers at various
places, especially the male rendition of the hook line, such changes always
provide that extra zing to any remix or reprise.
The over hyped "Chaar
Botal Vodka”; composed and sung by Yo Yo Honey Singh; is different from
various other compositions that has the name of Yo Yo Honey Singh attached to
it. The song as usual caters to the 'Urban Youth' with lyrics by Ustad Bhagdarh
Ali Khan Sahab (Really?) that is all about drinking and partying but instead of
fast paced techno/club arrangements , Honey Singh focuses more on vocals and
Hip Hop rap portions with pulsating trance music in the background for the
whole duration of the song..Interesting. Considering the fan following of Yo Yo
these days and the 'Sensuous Sunny Leone', it may go on and become a Huge Hit
but only for a very limited period!
Composer Pranay Rijia and vocalist Mustafa Zahid (Remember 'Teri
Yaadon Se' from 'Blood Money'-2012) brings forth the
soulful "Maine Khud Ko" which has some really
good arrangements, especially the flute and Sitar renditions. Kumaar is good
with his pen but nothing as such which we haven't heard before, also the
composition gets a tad too long with a duration of 5 and a half minutes with
too much orchestra and very less vocals. Kshitij Tarey replaces Mustafa Zahid
for the vocals in "Maine
Khud Ko Reprise" which
is sadly the same as the original in all aspects, although it sounds better
with Kshitij high pitched alaaps and soothing vocals.
Chirantan Bhatt's "Lori
Of Death - Soja Mere Chanda" written
by Manoj Yadav, fails miserably in entering the 'Horror' territory of a
scary, dark number, for instance 'Lautungi Main' from 'Ek Thi Daayan'. Arpita Chakroborty does well for
her mysterious vocals but phrases like 'So
Ja Warna Daayan Kaat Khayegi' makes
one laugh rather than being horrified, may it would make sense in the movie.
Avoid at all cost, this one is to be played alongside the narration of the
movie only.
Overall, "Ragini
MMS 2" is certainly
better than its previous part. 'Baby Doll' is an instant hit and 'Chaar
Botal Vodka' is strictly for
Honey Singh diehard fans, both the songs are part of promotional strategy for
increasing the footfalls and succeeds in doing the same!
