Kya Super Kool Hai Hum Music Review

Rating: ★ ★ 1/2
A adult sex-com doesn't quite comes with humungnous expectations when it comes to the music, rightly so, "Kya Super Kool Hai Hum" (a sequel to 'Kya Kool Hai Hum'comes with only four original compositions but surprisingly with three music directors being used, namely: Sachin-Jigar; Anjjaan - Meet Bros and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy (S-E-L). Let's see if there is anything 'Kool' for the music lovers !

Bang On..the first and only composition by Sachin-Jigar "Dil Garden Garden Ho Gaya" is addictive, catchy, funky and aptly written by guest lyricist Mayur Puri keeping in sync with the theme and content of the movie. Vishal Dadlani's voice is energetic and the auto-tuned effect is well used. The lyrics does gets a bit suggestive and double meaning at places but it's the beats and retro feel that works for the song and makes it the best of the four originals. Good start although the "Dil Garden Garden Ho Gaya Remix" wasn't required at all with few changes here and there as the original has enough pace and beats.

Anjjan - Meet Bros brings "Shirt Da Button" which is a winner and takes only few hearings to adjust to the unusual lyrics by Kumaar. Sonu Nigam is magnificent as always and sings his heart out in this melodious composition which has a touch of qawwali provided to it. At first, one may get annoyed by the start where the lyrics goes a bit wayward as the title of the song says but as the song progresses, one hears some pretentious alaaps and the unconventional lyrics catches attention, especially in the anataras. Go and hum around this hat-ke lovely romantic song ! Moving on, a fusion of Indian-Western beats starts of "Shirt Da Button Version 2" where surprisingly Kailash Kher replaces Sonu and is joined by Anjjan-Meet Bros themselves for the chorus part. With Kailash Kher behind the mike, the composition is inclined more towards the sufi zone, especially both the interludes with a fantastic harmonium in the second one.The focus shifts to the vocals from melody as in the original and there are enough variations to hear out for. A well handled alternate version which will certainly get listeners hooked.

"Hum To Hai Cappuccino (U.P. - Bihar Lootne)" is a surprise package; a rehash male version of S-E-L's very own 'U.P- Bihar Lootne' from 'Shool' with some sparkling and stormy singing by hugely talented Sukhwinder Singh and Daler Mehndi. Lyricist Kumaar deserves a pat on his back for the lyrics:
Apne Thumke Pe Clap Kare Duniya, Beech Me Hindi Me Rap Kare Muniya,
Raub MTV jaisa, Doordarshan Sa Dil Hai,
Entry Apni To Taaliyon Ke Kabil Hai.
A blustery dance number that goes all loud at the end with the Maharashtrian dhol as Riteish Deshmukh joins the vocals for this part. No doubt  that this one is aimed at the massess and the popularity depends upon the picturisation and promotions. Video can do wonders.

The last composition by Anjjan - Meet Bros "Volume High Karle" is the weakest of all and reminds of Pritam's 'Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo' at the very onset. An average tried and tested template which has nothing new, neither the vocals of Neeraj Shridhar provides anything fresh nor the lyrics by Kumaar offers anything that deserves attention. Don't bother giving it a hear neither the "Volume High Karle Remix". SKIP both !

It's an average soundtrack that works in parts and being an adult comedy, nothing much was expected too. 'Dil Garden Garden Ho Gaya' and 'Shirt Da Button' are already popular and 'Hum To Hai Cappuccino' should work pretty well from the movie's perpective and promotions. With 'Jism 2' soundtrack on the verge of its release, I don't think Kya Super Kool Hai Hum will get much listeners.
I rate it 2.5 out of 5 !

Don 2 Music Review

 Rating: ★ ★

A sequel, that too of a Remake Version develop humongous expectations, be it the soundtrack or the movie, and nothing short of some elegant and stylish stuff will be acceptable by the music buff's. Don 2 comes from the house of 'Farhan Akhtar' (Director and Story Writer) who shot to fame with his debut movie 'Dil Chahta Hai' almost a decade ago, from thereon, it's been a team- Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for the Music Direction and his father Javed Akhtar for penning the lyrics and no wonder the team has produced some smash hits in 'Dil Chahta Hai' (which was an outstanding OST of its time- 2001); 'Lakshya' (2004) and 'Don-The Chase Begins Again (TCBA)'  (2006) and now with Don 2, one expects another thrilling and sizzling outing from S-E-L and the Akhtar's. If one looks back to 2011 and 2010, one will realise that the past two years have not been prolific for S-E-L, "Aarakshan" and "Game" this year proved to be a huge disappointment while 'Patiala House' and 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' was simply good and had nothing Jaw dropping or monumental for which the composers have been known all these years since they made their debut with 'Dus' in 1997. So, let’s see if the composers put an end to all the criticism they have been facing from past 2 years!

The proceedings starts with "Aa Raha Hu Palat Ke", a 35 sec monologue by Shahrukh Khan (SrK) which marks the return of Don and tries to set the mood for the rest of the songs.

The second track, "Zara Dil Ko Thaam Lo" starts with Anusha Mani ('Lazy Lamhe'-'Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic' fame) knocking at the doors of 'Aaj Ki Raat' from 'Don-TCBA'. The chorus is a bit loud while the musical arrangements maintains the same rhythm and pitch during the whole song but Vishal Dadlani entry after 2 minutes and SrK stylish onscreen presence makes it interesting and brings an evil attitude to the song which is being promoted aggressively and is sure to get up the charts with time. But also there is nothing innovative in the lyrics department, moreover, the 2nd antara disappoints which leads to an average start and much below the standards of S-E-L.

It's innovative, it's fresh and certainly the best of the 3 originals, "Hai Yeh Maya" starts with retro-techno beats and the talented, Usha Uthup behind the mike. It's been 2 decades in the industry when she sang 'Koi Yaha Aaha Nache Nache' in 'Disco Dancer' and recently 'Darling' in '7 Khoon Maaf', and her voice still has the power and exuberance to thrill the listeners. A perfect choice of singer for an enthralling composition like this which will find its place at various junctures in the movie. It refreshes the memories of Asha Bhonsle-R.D.Burman classic 'Jab Andhera Hota Hai' back in 1972 and certainly will grab ears post the movie release if not now.
"Hai Yeh Maya Remix" by DJ Shane Mendonsa is a mix of various arrangements and gives a club feel to the song. Too much experiment, I would prefer the original.

Some more retro, some more techno, that brings on the 4th track "Dushman Mera", which seem to be a perfect climax outing with Priyanka Chopra and SrK. Sunitha Sarathty starts off well (remember 'Khuda Hafiz' from 'Yuva'-2004), joined later by Shankar Mahadevan who sounds different from his usual style (somewhat like Kishore Kumar, anyone?). The composition could have been much better if S-E-L had tried to come out of the 'Don' zone, the lyrics are lame and there is hardly any innovation anywhere, on the flip side though, a terrific visual treat will blast a dynamite onscreen. Wait for the video!

Sunitha Sarathy perfectly brings on the thrill element with her lines-'Har Dil Me Hulchul Hai, Aaya Hai Dekho Kaun' at very start for "The King Is Back (Theme)"and from thereon, electrifying guitar riffs, some pretentious keyboard arrangements will take you for a roller-coaster ride. It takes forward the majestic 'Don Theme and at 2.30 it completely goes in the 'Dushman Mera' zone. A perfect ringtone material.

"Mujhko PehchaanLo", a reprise/reconstructed version of ‘Main Hoon Don' from 'Don-TCBA' minus the chorus. It's animated and dark and will disappoint those listeners who compare it with the original version by Shaan. K.K here brings on the required attitude and arrogance alongside some powerful drum beats and guitar strumming. Instead of going for something new, the director sticks to the old theme and in my opinion  it shouldn't be wasted in the starting credits.
What disappoints is "Mujhko Pehchaan Lo Remix" (is it actually a remix?)which suffers from an infinite loop of 'Don Ko Pakadna Mushkil Hi Nahi, Namumkin Hai' during the whole 5 minutes and Srk's continuous chanting of Don..Don in the first interlude irritates. 3 minutes later, you will rip off your hairs for sure. Skip Skip!

The last track/instrumental is named "The Don Waltz" where Caralisa Monteiro throws in some opera-ish- notes (only for 20 sec though). The violin loops reminds me of some Tom & Jerry series and refreshes the scene from the previous ‘Don’ where SrK was shown taking a bath in his bath tub and watching Tom & Jerry. A good innovative attempt but one wonder how and when the director will use it in the movie (may be for some Ballet Dance sequence or may be something else).

Don 2 doesn't lives upto the expectations which were sky high after the huge success of 'Don-TCBA', it's a soundtrack that will work along the movie and will take the story forward, but as an audio alone it doesn't delivers. S-E-L plays safe by continuing from where they left in the previous venture of Don and there is hardly any innovation, Javed Akhtar lyrics are usual and lack the artistic touch, as a result 'Hai Ye Maaya' is the only good thing about Don 2 as of now, rest other will gain popularity post the movie release.
I rate it 3 out of 5!

Aarakshan:Music Review

★ ★ 1/2
Prakash Jha is known for his hard-hitting-realistic cinema, his previous ventures had different music directors: Raajneeti(2010)-Pritam,Aadesh Shrivastav,Shantanu Moitra,Wayne Sharp;  Aparahan(2005)- Aadesh shrivastav;  Gangaajal(2003) -Sandesh Shandiliya.
Prakash Jha's movies are sort of non-musical,he gives very little space for music in his films,Raajneeti super-hit songs Bheegi Si Bhaagi Si and Mora Piya were given very less screen space in the movie.
For Aarakshan,Prakash Jha has used the service of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Prasoon Joshi(who had worked together for movies like Taare Zameen Par and London Dreams to name a few). The album offers 6 tracks with 4 originals,1 solo version and 1 remix.Out of 4 originals,3 have been composed by S-E-L and surprisingly 1 fantastic classical number by lyricist turned musician Prasoon Joshi, who has made his debut as a music director in this movie.

The album opens with another soulful number by Mohit Chauhan with Shreya Ghoshal, named Acha Lagta hai.The number is an instant catch due to some brilliant lyrics by Prasoon Joshi, however the way it started,it straight away reminded me Mujhe tum chupke chupke jab aise dekhti ho,Achi lagti ho from the movie Kuch Naa Kaho(2003) composed by S.E.L,But as the song progresses it creates its own aura and carries on to be a decent hear.

Next comes,Mauka sung by 5 singers-Mahalaxmi Iyer,Raman Mahadevan, Tarun, Gaurav, Rehan.Mahalaxmi Iyer made her singing debut with DUS which was S.E.L debut as music directors in 1997,since then she has been the hot favourite for them. This is more of a situational-inspirational track which talks about giving a chanas(chance),a track which will work more with the video.Again the lyrics creates the high-point for the song ,like -Kahi Jeet Milti Nahayi huyi,Talcum chidak kar aayi huyi.

Now sit back, relax and get ready for the only classical composition by Prasoon Joshi in the movie,Kaun Si Dor for which Pt.Channulal mishra and Shreya Ghoshal has lend their voices. Its one of those genre which requires atleast 4 to 5 hearings before it settles down in the memory of the listeners.Prasoon Joshi surprises everyone by his 1st unusual classical masterpiece and Pt.Channulal Mishra, who is one of the greatest and most gifted classical vocalists of India,is brilliant even at the age of 75.Shreya Ghoshal gets an opportunity to showcase her versatility and she has done a brilliant job by standing tall with Pt.Channulal.It will be interesting to see how the song is used in the movie.
The song has another version Saans Albeli ,which is a solo version by Pt.Channulal Mishra .I expected the lyrics to be different in this one but it was same as in the duet version.

The last original song in the album,Roshanee crooned by Shankar Mahadevan himself is a revolutionary track and is very much similar to S.E.L  previous tunes in the movie Lakshya(2004) -Paega jo Lakshya hai Tera-The title song and Kandhon se milte hai kandhe. ,especially the way it started and the chorus part in between every stanza.Roshanee is a trademark S.E.L composition which will go well along the narration of the movie and once again Shankar Mahadevan's voice reminds me of Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan at parts.

Mauka-Remix Version disappoints and nothing new to offer apart from some extra beats.

Overall,Aarakshan is more of a situational album(as expected out of Prakash Jha) and apart from Achi Lagti ho,other songs will not have a longer shelf life.Prasoon Joshi is excellent with his pen as always but sadly their combination failed to create the same magic as in Taare Zameen Par.

I rate it 2.5(half more only for the lyrics) out of 5.

Music Review:Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara

Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★

The wait is over,Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy(S.E.L) are back with a bang with the music of Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara. When a movie has Farhan Akhtar named to it,S.E.L is a must,be it Dil Chahta hai,Lakshya,Don,Rock On. S.E.L hardly disappoints. For this movie they have composed a total of 9 tracks, including 7 massive originals and 2 remixes.Keeping in mind the theme of the movie, all the songs are young and fresh and will for sure be chartbusters in the coming days.
If you think that the title song of Rock On was the best, comes Dil Dhadakne Do crooned by Shankar Mahadevan,Suraj Jagan,Joi Barua. Its fresh, energetic, motivational(in parts) and starts with some perfect rock beats. It matches perfectly with the title of the movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara and will click at the first go,however the song has a feel of Rock On attached to it due to its care-free lyrics but it will top the charts neverthless in the coming days.

Next is Ik Junoon (Paint it Red),a Fast-Pacy HingLish dance number, which is making roars at present due to the tomato holi being played in the song,is sung by 5 singers,Shankar Mahadevan,Vishal dadlani,Ehsaaan Noorani,Alyssa Mendonsa,Gulraj Singh. Its a trademark S.E.L tune which will take some time to settle in,and once it does, you will get addicted to it and will be hard to keep away.Brilliant work again.

After 2 brilliant tracks, comes a slow ordinary composition,Khaabon Ke Parindey which has Alyssa Mendonsa and Mohit Chauhan behind the mike.A song close to 4 minutes will make you impatient for the first 3 minutes as there is no Mohit chauhan in the 1st 3 minutes,he is heard only in the last 1 minute, that made me a bit disappointed, not that the song is bad,but more of Mohit could have make it even better. An average track which will find little space in between such fantastic charbusters.

Next track,Senorita, will leave you SpellBound. Its a salsa number in S.E.L style for which Farhan Akhar,Hrithik Roshan,Abhay deol has lend their voice with ample support from spanish singer Maria Del Mar Fernandez. All the 3 actors will make you fall in love with the song with their innocence and naughtiness.Hrithik and Farhan have already sung in Kites and Rock On but the surprise element comes in form of Abhay Deol,he is fantastic in the few lines he has been given. The song is a pure gem and Kuddoos to S.E.L for composing such a masterpiece.I am dyng ro see the the picturisation of the song where all the 3 actors will be seen doing salsa.A glimpse of the song has alreay been seen in the trailor.Marvelleous.

Variety is the U.S.P of a S.E.L album, thats what Der Lagi Lekin provides.A song close to 6 minutes for which Shankar Mahadevan comes behind the mike. Its a bit philophical from the lyrics point and looks a track straight out of his previous venture,Taare Zameen Par.The song is high on lyrics and will require multiple hearings to grow on you.All in all a good track.

Loy Mendonsa,Dominique Cerejo,Clinton Cerejo are the names you read for the next track Sooraj Ki Baahon Mein, and with the fusion of these 3 singers one expects a Techno,Soft-rock song and thats what this song is all about.A decent hear which will be popular once the video is released.

The last original composition,To Zinda ho Tum, is nothing but a narration of few lines by Farhan Akhtar(mere 50 seconds, rest 50 seconds is instrumental)I was not happy as it ended too soon making me wanting for more. The way it started,I was expecting another Tum Ho Toh(Rock On) from the Farhan Akhtar and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy combination.

A remix of each Ik Junoon(Paint it red) and Senorita gives a perfect ending to the album. Both the remixes are good and provides something different from the originals.

Zinagi na Milegi Dubara is a treat for music lovers, best of 2011 till date.Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy made some fabulous tunes that will be remembered for a long time.Again Hats off to them for portraying pure music where munni, sheila, shaalu ke thumke, jalebi bai and many more exists.
A must hear album, guys don't dare to miss this one!!

Toh Zinda Ho tum Lyrics-Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara

Dilon me tum apni betabiyaa leke chal rahe ho,
Toh zinda ho tum..
Nazar mein khwaabon ki bijliyaa leke chal rahe ho,
Toh zinda ho tum..

Hawa ke jhonko ke jaise, aazad rehna seekho,
Tum ek dariya ke jaise, leharon me behna seekho.
Har ek lamhe se tum milo, khole apni baahein...
Har ek pal ek naya sama dekhie...

Jo apni aankhon me hairaniyaa leke chal rahe ho,
Toh zinda ho tum..
Dilon mein tum apni betabiyan leke chal rahe ho,
Toh zinda ho tum...

Der Lagi Lekin Lyrics-Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara

Der Lagi Lekin,
Maine ab hai jeena seekh liya,
Jaise bhi ho din,
Maine ab hai jeena seekh liya.

Ab maine....
Yeh jaana hai, khushi hai kya, gam kya..
Dono hi, do pal ki hai rutein,
Na yeh thehre na ruke..
Zindagi, do rangon se bane,
Ab roothe, ab mane..
Yahi toh hai, yahi toh hai, yahaan...

Der lagi lekin,
Maine ab hai jeena seekh liya.

Aansuon ke bin,
Maine ab hai jeena seekh liya.
Ab maine...
Yeh jaana hai,Kise kahun apna.
Hai koi, jo yeh mujhse keh gaya,
Yeh kahaa, tu reh gaya.
Zindagi toh hai,Jaise kaarvan.
Tu hai tanha kab yahaan..
Sabhi toh hai, sabhi toh hai, Yahaan....

Koi sunaaye joh hasti muskurati kahani...

Kehta hai dil, main bhi sunu.
Aansu bhi moti ho jo kisi ke nishani...
Kehta hai dil, main bhi chunu.
Baahein, dil ki ho baahon mein,

Chalta,Chalun yuhi raahon mein,

Bus yunhi, ab yahaan, kab wahaan....

Der lagi lekin,

Maine ab hai jeena seekh liya.
Aansuon ke bin,
Maine ab hai jeena seekh liya.

Hai koi, Jo yeh mujhse keh gaya,
Yeh kaha tu reh gaya.
Zindagi, toh hai jaise kaarvan,
Tu hai tanha kab yahaan.
Sabhi toh hai, sabhi toh hai, Yahaan.......

Senoritttaaaa Lyrics-Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara

Na main samjha, na main jaana,
Jo bhi tumne mujhse kaha hai Senorita.
Magar phir bhi, na jaane kyun,
Mujhe sunke accha laga hai senorita..

Mujhko baahon me tum ghero,
Samjhi na senorita...

Chaahat ke do pal bhi, mil paaye,Duniya mein yeh bhi kam hai kya,
Do pal ko to aao, kho jaaye,Bhoole hum hota gham hai kya senorita,
Suno suno senorita kehte hai hum kya...

Nighaahon ne Nighaahon se,
Kayi Armaano ki daastan hai senorita..
Yeh chaahat ki, Mohabbat ki,
Saari duniya me ek hi zubaan hai senorita.

Mujhse ab nazar na phero, aao paas tum mere..
Mujhko baahon mein tum ghero,Samjhi na senorita..

Chaahat ke do pal bhi, mil paaye,
Duniya mein yeh bhi kum hai kya,
Do pal ko toh aao,kho jaaye,Bhoole hum hota ghum hai kya ,senorita,
Suno suno senorita kehte hain- hum- kya..

Jo bhi pal beeta,Hey senorita,
Har pal tumne hai dil jeeta,Bus itni si to baat hai..

Mujhko baahon me tum ghero,Samjhi na -Senorita...

Ude Dil ke jahan mein,Khawabo ke Parindey.

O Ho Kya Pata,Jayenge Kahan,Khule hai jo pal,Kahe yeh nazar,
Lagta hai ab hai jaage hum,Fikrein jo thi ,

Peeche Reh Gai ,Nikle Unse Aage hum.

Hawa mein beh rahi hai zindagi,

Yeh humse keh rahi hai zindagi,

O HO Ooo Oo
abb to Jo bhi ho so ho.

Ude Khule aasmaan me,Khawabo ke Parindey.
Ude Dil ke jahan me,Khawabo ke Parindey.

O Ho Kya Pata,Jayenge Kahan,
Kisne chua,Jo yeh hua,Firte hai mehke mehke hum,

Hui hai kayi baatein nayi,Jab hai aise Behke hum.

Hua hai yun ki dil pighal gaye,
Bas ek pal mein hum badal gaye,
O HO o Ab to jo bhi ho so ho..

Roshini mili ,ab rahon me hai Ek dilkashi si barsi.
Har Kushi mili,Ab zindagi pe hai Zindagi si barsi.
Abb jeena humne sikha hai ....

Yaad hai kal ,aaya tha woh pal,
Jismein jaddo aisa tha.
Hum ho gaye ,jaise naye,
Woh pal jane kaisa tha..

Kahe yeh dil ki ja udhar bhi tu,
Jahan bhi leke jaye aarzoo.
O ho o Abb to jo bhi ho so ho..
Jo bhi ho so ho..
Ude..
Jo bhi ho so ho..
Udeee.......
